Become or Host a Parent Champion!

Be part of something amazing

The Parent Champion Project is a joint collaboration of grant funded provision delivered by SENDiass4BCP & Parent Carers Together, through a designated Parent Champion Co-Ordinator and trained volunteer parent/carer champions across schools in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP).

Our Parent Champion volunteers act as a confidential listening and signposting service for families who have children and young people with additional needs in BCP. Providing very much needed initial information, advice and support regarding the local offer and universal
services.

Working in a transparent way, we have been able to provide a safe space for families to talk through their concerns and fears around the SEND agenda in a school setting. You can make an appointment now with a Parent Carer Champion at the following schools:

What is a Parent Champion?

A Parent Champion has a lived experience of accessing SEND support for their child/children in an educational setting.

How do I make an appointment to see them?

If your school has a Parent Champion it will be promoted on their website and in their newsletters. There will be an email address for you to request an appointment.

What can I expect from a Parent Champion session?

First and foremost you will be listened to. The Parent Champion will share with you their knowledge of the appropriate SEND support and services in your local area and nationally.

Does my child need to have a diagnosis for me to be able to access the support of a Parent Champion?

Absolutely not. Early interventions are key for the best outcome for your child.

Will my details be shared with anyone else?

Parent Champion sessions provide a confidential space for you to talk through your worries. Information would only ever be shared without your consent if there was a safeguarding concern.

Read our Confidentiality Statement.

Will I have to complete any forms?

We have a voluntary form for sharing your feedback of the session. It will not ask you for any of your or your school’s details. By providing feedback you are helping us to shape and influence SEND support and services in your area.

Have you attended a session with a Parent Champion? We’d appreciate your feedback.
